Nature based therapy / Ecotherapy
Not everyone who comes to Winhaven engages with animals in every session.
In fact, some people don’t at all.

The benefits of attending a practice that has both indoor and outdoor therapy spaces available allows for flexibility in the environment for therapy and the tools utilised.

At Winhaven there are many opportunities to explore
Nature based therapy, also called ecotherapy.

We believe that the right environment is important to help facilitate healing and create change. Nature based therapy is conducted outdoors, where the outdoor setting is of importance. Research has shown that the set up of the place has a tremendous influence on people and the therapy outcome (Bengtsson & Carlsson, 2013; Bengtsson, & Grahn 2014). For clients with stress-related mental health disorders (such as depression and burnout), it was most important to have refuge (a secluded place) and serene (peaceful, silent, safe, and secure) spaces for the recovery process (Pálsdóttir, Stigsdotter, Persson, Thorpert, & Grahn, 2018).
Nature based therapy is the practice of being in nature to boost growth and healing, especially mental health.
Research suggests that spending time in natural environments are linked to mental health benefits:

•Less anxiety
•Fewer depression symptoms
•Lower stress levels
•Ability to think more clearly
•Positive effect on the immune system
•Increased reflection and self-regulation
•Improved self-esteem
•Improved motivation and social interaction.
